FAQ
Stream for a Cause is a 501(c)3 federally registered nonprofit that is based in the state of Michigan. We received our charitable status on July 24th 2020. We operate as a charitable foundation, meaning we seek to raise money to help non-profits with missions important to our community of volunteer content creators. We are not simply a passthrough or a streaming group.
When you work with us, you are raising money for Stream for a Cause. Money raised goes directly to SfaC to continue their mission of responsible giving and supporting small grassroots causes all over the world.
Money raised for Stream for a Cause allows SfaC to create grants for community based nonprofits. If we raise more than is needed in a month, the money goes forward to allow SfaC the ability to continue to create grant opportunities through our Scheduled Grants as well as build upon our Rapid Response Grants which allows us to respond in real time to events happening around the world. Funding is also used to enrich our Sustainability Coaching program which provides direct assistance to nonprofits by addressing needs within their own organization through program assessment and leadership skills. In the end, all money donated to SfaC is utilized in a responsible way to support our work.
The SfaC Streamer Support Program is used to eliminate barriers with streaming and charity streaming. A portion of what you raise will go into an account for you to use to improve future charity events, cover costs, and more. Why do we do this? Simple, no other nonprofit expects volunteers to buy their own equipment, materials, and more; so why should we? Note: you cannot cash out this credit as we cannot pay volunteers.
In short: no. However you can suggest a nonprofit to us and we'd be more than happy to look into them! The best way to suggest a charity or nonprofit to SfaC is by visiting our homepage and suggesting a charity at the bottom. There are many factors that make a charity a good fit for our funding and not all charities qualify. By submitting a nonprofit this way, you ensure that the SfaC team can review the charity and see if they would be a good fit for one of our grants. Feel free to follow up with staff if you have questions on a nonprofit you submitted.
We're not just an online group of people. Stream for a Cause is an actual non-profit and all non-profits that use volunteers should be using a Volunteer Agreement. A Volunteer Agreement is a mutual understanding of expectations between the people who are volunteering and the non-profit itself. Our Volunteer Agreement has no strings attached and you may separate from working with SFAC whenever you please.
